Cleshar were awarded Phase 1 of the Station Modernisation Works at Earl’s Court Station. The project was part of Metronet’s plan to reduce congestion and make the station more accessible and safer for the travelling public.
Scope of Works Includes:
- Restoration of “Grade II” English Heritage listed facade to original condition
- Construction and refurbishment of ticket office and control room
- Extension of station concourse with new platform access staircases
- Refurbishment of ticketing facilities, re-positioning of gate line, installation of new flooring and ramp for the mobility impaired
- Fit out of subway extension to Earl’s Court exhibition centre, including new ceiling and lighting system
- Installation of new communication and cable management systems for new public address system and CCTV coverage
- Power upgrades by way of construction of new transformer and switch rooms, laying track side cables and upgrading existing power supplies
- Installation, erection and refurbishment of High-Level walkways
- Refurbishment of staff accommodation
- Installation of ‘Mobility Impaired Persons’ lifts to link both the District Line platform with the ticket hall and ramp from street level, to provide continuous step free access from the platforms
- Refurbishment of control rooms
- Strengthening bridge and tunnel structures
Challenges:
Throughout this project there were a number of challenges, the main one being that the station had to remain open to the public and train traffic and fully functional during operating hours. Safety provisions were put in place in order for us to achieve this and we were able to minimise disruption to the public and station staff successfully.
