Cleshar Rail Grip
To counter the risk and injury problems associated with lifting short lengths of rail, Cleshar Contract Services Limited has developed an innovative and user friendly piece of manual lifting equipment – the Rail Grip.
Previously, the various pieces of equipment available to the market have had their limitations in respect of their applications or functional range. The multi purpose rail grip is simple, efficient, quick to use and when clamped on a rail is locked securely in position.
It is lightweight but robust and able to withstand heavy usage. It enables the user to lift 25kg of rail per grip but with the use of multiple grips, longer lengths of rail are easily and efficiently transported.
Mark Bayes, Director of HSQE states ‘One of the areas that statistics has identified as a reoccurring injury was the nips and pinches to fingers suffered whilst moving short sections of rail. By carrying out in depth research and development on equipment within this area, we have created a unique device which mitigates the frequency of such injuries’.
Currently, the Rail Grip can accommodate both flat bottom and bull head rail. Further development is being carried out which will not only extend the range of uses of the Rail Grip but will also facilitate other rail types to be more safely transported.
The prototype for the Rail Grip was recently shown at the Railtex exhibition and feedback has been extremely encouraging.
